Some Madeleine Angevines we’ve tried have been a little blurred round the edges and sadly undistinctive, but this is wonderfully precise, with pear and honeysuckle to the fore. The vineyards cover seven acres of sheltered, south-facing fields on chalk and flint-stone soil. Their first vines were planted in 1988; the family has chosen to focus on limited production, following organic principles, which is reflected in the quality of the wine.
